Airbnb Superhost requirements in 2026, explained with real numbers

What are the four criteria?

Airbnb awards Superhost status automatically. You do not apply. Every quarter it checks the past 12 months against four thresholds, and you must meet all four at the same time.

  1. Rating: an overall rating of 4.8 or higher.
  2. Response rate: you reply to at least 90% of new inquiries and booking requests within 24 hours.
  3. Cancellations: fewer than 1% of your reservations cancelled by you, with exceptions for valid reasons.
  4. Activity: at least 10 completed stays, or 3 stays that add up to at least 100 nights.

What does 4.8 mean in practice?

It is an average, so the fewer stays you have, the more each one counts. With 10 stays, one 3-star review among nine 5-star reviews gives exactly 4.8. Two 4-star reviews among eight 5-star reviews also give 4.8. Anything weaker and you drop below.

With 50 stays, the same single 3-star review barely moves you. That is why new hosts should treat every early stay as decisive.

How strict is the 90% response rate?

Per 100 new inquiries you can miss about 10. The clock starts when the message arrives, not when you see it. A quick "thanks, I'll get back to you shortly" counts as a reply, so the rule is about speed and consistency. Remote hosts solve this with a clear handover between themselves and the local team, and with scheduled messages for predictable questions.

And the cancellation rate?

Under 1% means that until you have 100 bookings, a single cancellation by you can cost the badge. Keep your calendar accurate, sync it if you use several platforms, and never accept a booking you are not sure you can honour.

When are you evaluated?

On 1 January, 1 April, 1 July and 1 October. The result appears a few days later. If you meet the criteria for the first time, you can be a Superhost at your very first evaluation; there is no minimum time on the platform.

Is it worth it?

Superhosts get a badge on their listing and profile, can be found through a Superhost filter, and tend to get more bookings. Industry analyses report noticeably higher revenue for Superhosts, driven mainly by occupancy. The bigger benefit is what the criteria force you to build: a reliable, professional operation.

FAQ

Is it still 80% five-star reviews?

No. That rule is gone. Airbnb now uses an overall rating of 4.8 or higher.

Do cancellations for emergencies count?

Cancellations for major disruptive events or other valid reasons are generally excluded. Anything else counts toward the 1%.
